So Halloween is coming up, but I’m sure you all already have SOOOOO much candy. It seems like there are Trick or Treat events every day the last couple weeks of October, and it all piles up. You can eat it all right away, but should you? Like seriously, your kids will be bouncing all over the place, and with the Holidays coming up and sooo much good food on the horizon, why waste the waist band and binge all the candy now?
There are two things I like to do with my leftover candy…yes, one involves eating it now. 🙂 But I have to sidebar for a second. Do any of you separate out your candy right away? You can’t have the chocolate and the non-chocolate in the same bowl it, like, makes your Starburst or Skittles or whatever taste funny. There’s nothing worse than biting into a Pink Starburst and it tasting ever so slightly like Reese’s. So I guess that’s technically #1 of what I do with Halloween candy, and I really have a list of three things.
First Secondly, it is to pop the candy in the freezer. Candy freezes SUPER well. Bring out your candy bars throughout the year and chop up to top ice cream with, or cookies, or you know make this dessert in thing number three!
See what I did there?? Number Three on the list is to transform your Halloween candy into this tasty and Salty Sweet dessert. You could even take this to a Halloween party, because we all know you already have candy. My husband has been eating on the candy we bought to hand out for days! We’ll probably have to turn our lights out early because we will run out now!
So here is it, the Salty Sweet Halloween Treat dessert- Candy Frito Nachos!
The Process
First, take whatever candy you want to top this with (yes, you can use multiple), and chop it up! Small diced pieces are best. I find it’s easier to cut most of the chocolate candies after freezing them for about 20 minutes. Set aside.
Cover two cookie sheets with parchment or wax paper. Spread one bag of Fritos out over each sheet.
Next, cook the sugar, and Karo Syrup in a sauce pan until just boiling-stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and stir in the peanut butter until smooth.
Pour the sugar/peanut butter mixture over the Fritos. I transferred the mixture to a measuring bowl with a spout to make it a little easier, but this is optional.
Next, take your chopped-up candy and sprinkle over the top. You can mix candies over the whole thing, put certain candies in different sections or just use a single candy!
OOOOhhhh ya, baby. Leave on the cookie sheet for people to pull out a piece from or transfer to a platter.
Enjoy this kid (and husband) approved treat!
