I have been making banana shakes as long as I have known how to work a blender. I used to make them with vanilla ice cream, as I nice little midnight (more like 8 pm) snack. There was nothing better on a Friday night in than having a banana shake, and forgetting the troubles of 5th grade. I know, a little dramatic, but it was delicious and the best part of my week.
Since I have gotten older, I still want the flavors of that delicious treat, but this time ‘grown up.’ So I packed it with protein, removed the ice cream (tear), and made myself a perfect breakfast smoothie to start the day with.
Ever since ‘Face’ on Nickelodeon used to sing “Peanut Butter and Banana!” and eat it as a afternoon snack, I have been obsessed with the combination. Yes, I was definitely the child that watched waaayyy too much Nick, and ate everything they told me was yummy. So naturally, now that I’m an adult, I still love peanut butter and bananas (HELLO PROTEIN!), and they are the base ingredients for this smoothie.
This recipe perfectly makes two smoothies, and by cutting it in half, it will easily fit into one of those single serving blenders. Most of the time, I make a single smoothie and take off out the door to work, but occasionally I want to make two and store one in the fridge for the next day. Note: There will be separation in the smoothie if it sits overnight. This is completely normal because the ingredients are all natural, just give it a stir and drink up!
So here it is a protein packed Peanut Butter and Banana Breakfast Smoothie!
The Process:
In a blender, add your oatmeal and give it a couple pulses. This is optional, but it breaks up the oatmeal a bit better than when its blended with all of the other ingredients.
Add the remaining ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. You may have to stop once and scrape the peanut butter and honey from the sides, if it is sticking.
Pour into a glass and you are good to go!
Frothy, creamy, banana-y (?) goodness 🙂
